WEIGHT LOSS FAQ

How do these medications work?

Each medication works a little differently, but for the majority of them, they work by making you feel fuller for longer by slowing down your stomach emptying.

Am I a good candidate for the weight loss program?

The ideal patient would have a BMI of 30 or a BMI of 27 with co-morbidities.

Patients who are not a candidate for weight loss medications are patients who have a history of diabetes (These medications could make your blood sugar too low), patients who have a history of medullary thyroid cancer, and patients who have a personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome – type 2.

If you have a history of Thyroid Cancer or nodules, we ask that you get written clearance from your physcian prior to beginning the program.

What are some of the most common side effects I may experience?

How often do I need to come in for visits?

Some of the most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, tiredness, dizziness, or constipation. Initial side edffects usually lessons as you continue semaglutide.

Sounds great but how quickly will I see results?

As you begin the program, you will come in for your initial consult in addition to monthly visits.  Your provider can review the full depth of the program with you during your consultation.

Is there a special diet I need to follow?

Most patients will begin to see weight loss after their inital dose has increased one to two times, typically within a month.

Not at all – there are no food restrictions with this diet! We do encourage patients to live an active lifestyle and maintain a balanced diet for optimal results.

How are Semaglutide and Tirzepatide administered?

These medications are injected just under the skin (subcutaneously), typically in your abdomen.
